Make 12twenty Work for You: Profile, Preferences, Events, and Calendar Tips

12twenty is Rice Business’s career management platform and your central hub for managing recruiting activity, discovering opportunities, registering for events, and connecting with employers. 12twenty works best when the information in your account is complete and current. A few small updates can help you find more relevant opportunities, make it easier for employers to identify your interests, and keep recruiting activity organized.

Here are a few areas worth reviewing now and returning to throughout your job search.

Complete Your Profile and Job Preferences

The more complete and current your profile is, the more useful 12twenty becomes, helping surface jobs, employer updates, and events that better match your interests.

Start by selecting Profile toward the top of the left-hand menu and reviewing each section, especially your Job Preferences.

Your preferences help 12twenty better surface relevant jobs and events based on factors such as your preferred:

  • Industry
  • Function
  • City
  • Country

When employers access resume books, they may filter students based on these preferences. For example, a technology employer searching for students interested in Technology may filter the resume book using that preferred industry. Students who have selected that preference can then appear in the employer’s results.

Employers see your resume, not the full list of preferences you have selected. When choosing your preferences, remember three things:

  • Be broad. Select all of the industries, functions, and locations you would genuinely consider.
  • Be honest. Don’t select an area simply because you think it may increase your visibility if you would not actually pursue an opportunity there.
  • Update regularly. Your interests may change as you learn more about industries, companies, and roles. Your profile should change with them.

Also review your employer visibility settings and make sure you have selected “Yes” where appropriate so employers can discover your information through available recruiting tools.

Build Your Target Employer List

As you research companies and meet recruiters, alumni, and other professionals, use the Target Employers page to keep track of organizations and contacts that interest you.

This page includes separate tabs for your favorited Employers and Contacts. When you favorite an employer or contact in 12twenty, they will automatically be added to these lists.

Think of this as a simple way to create a working list of organizations and people you may want to research, engage, or follow up with throughout recruiting.

Pay Attention to Event Registration Deadlines

When you register for an employer event in 12twenty, the registration period is also generally the period during which you can cancel your registration.

Once registration closes, cancellations are not permitted except in the case of an emergency. If an emergency requires a late cancellation, contact cdo@rice.edu as soon as possible.

Before the registration deadline closes, you can also update the resume associated with your registration when applicable.

The takeaway: don’t just note when an event takes place. Pay attention to the registration deadline, too.

Sync 12twenty With Your Calendar

Recruiting can quickly fill your calendar with employer events, advising appointments, interviews, and other commitments. Calendar sync can make it easier to keep everything in one place.

To set it up:

  1. Log in to 12twenty and select your name in the bottom-right corner.
  2. Choose Account Settings.
  3. Select the calendar platform you would like to connect and follow the prompts to authorize your account.
  4. Once connected, confirm that “Sync from 12twenty to my personal calendar” is set to Yes.
  5. If it is set to No, select Edit next to Calendar Sync and update the setting.
  6. If using Google Calendar, select the Google account you want to link.

A few minutes spent updating these settings can make 12twenty much more useful throughout recruiting. Review your profile periodically, keep your preferences current, and use the platform as an active part of your search, not just a place to check when you hear about an opportunity.
