Position Description:

The Emerging Innovations Group (EIG) connects Corning’s extraordinary materials and process capabilities to new market opportunities, while building new growth businesses from innovations in glass, ceramics, and other materials.

 

During this co-op opportunity, you’ll join a team of experienced scientists and engineers who are passionate about innovation and eager to help you grow.

 

As a Corning Co-Op, you will:

  • work on real-world projects that align with the company’s mission to push the boundaries of technology
  • solve complex challenges that benefit critical industries such as communications, healthcare, transportation, and renewable energy.
  • gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced, innovative environment.

Program Descriptions:

ARCHITECTURE GLASS

Corning has developed glass solutions for advanced windows, doors, and skylights incorporating ultra-thin glass to provide higher energy efficiency performance at a lighter weight than currently available solutions. These solutions directly address the leading cause of heat loss in homes and buildings.

 

AUTO FUTURES

Corning is working with industry leaders on a portfolio of emerging technologies, including advanced sensors and in-vehicle optical networks. These solutions are designed to enable autonomous and sophisticated cars of the future.​

 

CRITICAL AND INDUSTRIAL MATERIALS

Corning has invented novel continuous flow processes that can dramatically improve production economics, scalability, and safety for applications including rare earth elements, energetic materials, and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs).​

 

ENERGY MATERIALS

Corning has invented innovative battery materials with the ability to deliver higher energy densities in advanced solid-state battery applications. These innovations include a ​new generation of high-performance ceramic substrates along with a new to the world manufacturing process to deliver ribbon ceramic materials in a roll-to-roll format. ​

 

SOLAR

Corning is innovating technologies in the solar energy business, which is a dynamic and rapidly growing industry focused on harnessing clean, renewable energy from the sun to power homes, businesses, and communities.

CONTROLS/MEASUREMENT

Corning is committed to driving continuous improvements in engineering controls and measurement technologies across R&D and global manufacturing processes. With a particular focus on online measurement systems, Corning aims to enhance precision, efficiency, and consistency, enabling more reliable and scalable solutions to support innovation and operational excellence.

 

MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT AUTOMATION

Corning is advancing mechanical and robotic automation technologies to drive continuous improvement and innovation across R&D and manufacturing processes, enhancing efficiency, precision, and scalability.

 

GLOBAL MANUFACTURING

Corning is shaping the future of manufacturing operations by ensuring the successful integration of emerging innovations, developing world-class talent, and driving operational improvements across the global network. This is an opportunity to make a significant impact while working in a dynamic, innovative-driven environment.

 

Co-Op Requirements:

Co-op opportunities are available within a variety of teams across manufacturing, technology, engineering, research, development, and commercial areas.

 

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a BS or MS degree program in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field, at the start of employment.
  • GPA of 3.5 or above
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment with engagement from stellar scientists, engineers, technicians and managers.
  • Able to work full time, on site for a minimum of 10 consecutive weeks.

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Available to work full-time, onsite for a minimum of 10- 12 consecutive weeks during the summer *fall or spring semester.
  • Travel: < 40%

 

 

This position does not support immigration sponsorship.  

​The range for this position is $1,635.00 – $3,185.00 biweekly.  Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
