We are seeking a detail-oriented Data Engineer with hands-on experience building reports and data pipelines on a modern business intelligence platform. This role works closely with business stakeholders to transform raw data into reliable insights and self-service reporting.
The ideal candidate is comfortable building data models and dashboards, understands core data concepts, and has exposure to a cloud data platform (data lake / lakehouse / warehouse) including its ingestion, transformation, and notebook tooling.
There are three distinct operating arms, being a) the family office b) a winery and c) a lodge.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, develop, and maintain reports and dashboards for business and operational use
• Build and manage semantic / data models that serve as a reliable source for reporting
• Collaborate with business users to gather requirements and translate them into clear, actionable visuals
• Write and optimize calculations and measures to support KPIs, trends, and ad-hoc analysis
• Perform data modeling, including relationships, calculated fields, and aggregations
• Build and maintain data ingestion and transformation processes using the platform’s pipeline, dataflow, or notebook tools
• Validate data accuracy and troubleshoot data quality or performance issues
• Maintain documentation for reports, datasets, and data sources
• Assist with report deployment, refresh scheduling, and workspace / environment management
Required Qualifications
• 4+ years of hands-on experience data visualization, building reports and dashboards in a major BI tool (e.g., Power BI, Synapse, Tableau, DAX, Looker, Qlik, Alteryx, Spotfire, or similar)
• Solid understanding of data modeling concepts (facts, dimensions, relationships)
• Experience writing DAX measures and basic calculations
• Working knowledge of SQL for querying and validating data
• Exposure to a cloud data platform and its ingestion / transformation tooling (Redshift, Snowflake, data lake, lakehouse, warehouse, pipelines, dataflows, notebooks, or similar)
• Experience connecting to source systems via APIs — e.g., pulling data from operational systems through scripting / notebooks, typically in Python
• Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Experience with lakehouse or warehouse table formats (e.g., Fabric, DatabBricks, Delta tables, etc.)
• Familiarity with dataflows, pipelines, or notebook-based transformations
• Understanding of report and query performance optimization
• Experience migrating from legacy reporting tools (SSRS, Crystal Reports, Excel, Access, etc.) to a modern BI platform
• Knowledge of security concepts such as workspace / environment roles and row-level security (RLS)
• Experience with incremental refresh, direct query, or streaming / near-real-time data
• Familiarity with cloud data services (Azure, AWS, or GCP) or on-prem SQL Server environments
• Exposure to business analytics, finance, operations and/or hospitality
• A relevant analytics or platform certification (Microsoft, Tableau, Snowflake, Databricks, etc.)
