Hi! We’re a super low profile holding company modelled after Berkshire Hathaway. We have various sub-holdcos, each focused-on rolling-up a specific industry. We just capitalized a new sub-holdco with $30m of initial equity, and we’re looking for someone to be CEO. Location is totally flexible (i.e. remote). We’re big into past-boss-reference-checks and are looking for someone with great references for: work-ethic, attention-to-detail, kindness, honesty, and scrappiness (and PE or Rollup experience).
If interesting to you, we’d love to hear from you! Please email our anonymized inbox hiring@teddyholdings.com with your resume (including your undergrad GPA and some indication of previous job ranking/performance). Note we will rely significantly on both solicited references (where you introduce us) and back-end/unsolicited references (which we do on our own – though we’ll never contact a current employer without asking).
Thank you so much and have a wonderful day!
NOTE: THIS IS NOT AN INTERNSHIP – THIS IS A FULL-TIME ROLE FOR ALUMNI AND/OR ’24 GRADS
Overview of Parent PE Holding Company
- We are a low-profile, value-oriented holding vehicle modeled after Berkshire Hathaway. We have various sub holdcos (i.e. portfolio companies or ‘platforms’) each focused on rolling up a specific industry (i.e. rollups, aggregations, or ‘buy-and-builds’). Each sub-holdco is capitalized with a long-term equity base and has the sole mandate of compounding cash flows for the long term, primarily through M&A. The founder/investment team are value investors from the [megafund private equity fund] and [megafund tiger cub]. The investment team has a broad mandate and looks for opportunities across industries, geographies and the capital structure, although it primarily focuses on rollups.
Overview of role / responsibilities
- Entrepreneurship: You will be responsible for allocating a $30m pool of capital and overseeing the creation of a new company. Doing the job well requires a real sense of ownership, hustle, creativity, and a willingness to ‘get your hands dirty’.
- M&A: You will run sourcing and M&A, starting from introductory seller calls to IOI to LOI and ultimately to close.
- Salesmanship: You need to have the salesmanship to engender trust and rapport with the seller from the first seller call, but you’ll also need technical M&A and process expertise to bring that seller/deal to a close.
Qualifications
- Great references: that speak to work ethic, kindness and honesty + PE experience
- Low-ego: there can be real wealth creation and glamor as things progress, but the nature of creating value in this role is a series of low-ego, scrappy, mundane things (i.e. dealing with sellers for a $500k EBITDA business).
- Superb at to-do-lists: highly-organized, high attention-to-detail, highly responsive and conscientious. Strong execution and project management skills including managing multiple workstreams and teams of people (internal and external including managing sellers, lawyers, bankers, accountants etc.).
- Execution Oriented: We need an executional rockstar that keeps the trains-running-on-time and all the t’s-are-crossed-and-i’s-are-dotted. (To invert, we do not need the lazy genius who likes to go on long-walks and theorize, we need an execution killer!).
- Scrappy and solutions-oriented: Does not need structure or direction to thrive. Is someone who can do high quality financial analysis, but also get their hands dirty to problem solve and do what it takes to acquire and grow a portfolio of small businesses.
- Private Equity experience: At least two years of PE experience is required as this person will lead M&A for the platform.
Compensation
- We’re selecting for folks who value the autonomy, responsibility, financial upside, and fun of this entrepreneurial opportunity versus a highly prestigious, brand name opportunity (which we’re not ;)). Comp depends on candidate profile, but target is ~$200-250k/year in cash + large wealth creation opportunity via carry in the fund.
Summary trade-offs of the opportunity
- (+) You will be a leader at a high-growth holding company. Opportunity to manage a larger portfolio over time.
- (+) You will learn from a highly-successful PE team with a top investing track record.
- (+) You will have a big title and significant autonomy and responsibility in overseeing your sub-holdco.
- (+) You will have a lot of fun in a scrappy, entrepreneurial environment.
- (-) If joining a large, established company with a big brand is appealing to you or you enjoy structured environments, then this opportunity is not a fit.
Thank you!
