Qualifications
General description
The Comptroller’s office is seeking an Accountant VII in the Fiscal Management Division. The work includes assisting with resolving accounting and reporting issues at a statewide and/or agency level, analyzing reporting requirements, implementing changes to statewide accounting procedures and systems, and researching Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) statements. You also will be preparing the State of Texas Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) and establishing general ledger hierarchy for financial structure.
This position may be eligible for a flexible/hybrid work schedule if certain conditions are met; working arrangements may change at any time as business necessitates.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
Technical financial reporting, financial statement auditing, or Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) experience.
Advanced working knowledge of excel.
Experience with structured query language (SQL).
Preferred Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree in Accounting or an advanced degree in a related field (e.g., Finance).
State governmental accounting/auditing experience or higher education accounting/auditing experience related to technical systems and applications.
Working knowledge of Workiva.
In this role you will have the following:
Knowledge of:
GAAP accounting and financial reporting practices.
Higher Education accounting and financial reporting practices.
Federal grants, bonds, investments, and/or capital asset accounting practices.
Proprietary Fund accounting including Cash Flow Statement.
State of Texas Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS).
Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint.
GASB statements/standards.
Knowledge of structured query language (SQL)

Salary is contingent upon qualifications. CPA employees in the same job classification, if selected, will be laterally transferred with no increase in salary. (An example might be an Accounts Examiner III in Revenue Administration who moves to an Accounts Examiner III in the Enforcement division).
