Rice Business students took their curiosity on the road during the recent Houston Tech Trek, spending the day exploring some of Houston’s most dynamic tech workplaces. Hosted by alumni and industry leaders at HP and HPE, the trek gave students a firsthand look at how innovation thrives within two of the city’s major technology players.
The day began with a visit to HP, where students heard from leaders about the company’s continued focus on digital transformation and culture of creativity. At HPE, the group learned about the firm’s strategic growth in cloud technology and data solutions, while connecting with Rice Business alumni who shared their experiences navigating career paths in tech.
For many, this was their first Career Trek — and the impact was clear.
“This trek was extremely informative and I had a great time learning about different companies and their business cultures,” shared one student participant.

The Houston Tech Trek exemplified what makes the Rice Business experience distinctive: a hands-on approach to career exploration, powered by community connections and an entrepreneurial spirit. Students left the day with new insights, expanded networks, and a deeper appreciation for the opportunities that innovation in Houston has to offer.
